Meetings will be held on the 2nd Thursday
(except June, July and August) at
GMP HALL
350 Hudson ave.

HHCA Meeting January 10 will be our last meeting before the very important HHCA Chicken Noodle Dinner and Auction. We will have a representative from the Newark Police Department arranged by Deputy Chief Erik McKee. We will be discussing plans for the new year, the scholarship, the "codes committee" and a big emphasis on the Dinner/Auction. Remember 7:00 PM 350 Hudson Ave Union Hall is the location and time

The Chicken Noodle Dinner and Auction will be Saturday January 26th from 4:30 - 6:30 PM at 587 Mt. Vernon Rd. Central Christian Church, downstairs. What's the big deal? The Food! Made from scratch home made noodles and chicken served with mashed potatoes, a fresh salad and green beans and ham. Top that off with rolls from R&M Bakery and your choice of iced tea, coffee or bottled water. Oh - now here's the bonus, if you have room, you can spend just $1 more and have dessert... about 120 items to select from! If you get there early enough there will be one roaster of Beef and Noodles.. but they go fast! We even fill TO GO orders, if you want the food but can't stay. Whatz that gonna cost? JUST $8 for adults and $4 for kids 12 and under. Great food and it's way under the value at this price. BUT WAIT... there's more .... WE HAVE A VERY COOL AUCTION! We will offer over $4,000 worth of donated items from area businesses. We will have a live auction - a silent auction - a ticket (Chinese) Auction and there will be some bargains! What kind of stuff: Ohio State Cooler stuffed with decals, bottle opener, fleece throw..., Oil Changes valued at 49.95, Alignments valued at $69.99, Dry Cleaning gift cards, meals at area eateries, PIZZAs, Pizza Dinners, T-Shirts, Bird Feeders, $50 gift card for Duke and Dutchess gas stations, $50 Gift Card to a grocery store, Tool Kits, Gift Sets from The Limited, Ice Skating Party Pack, $50 car wash gift cards, bucket of car wash/cleaning supplies, Goumas Chocolates, Heisy Glassware, 2 hours of Landscape work, toys, candy jar (filled!) and the list goes on and on. We will have trivia contests with prizes (Dairy Queen, McDonalds and Panda Express coupons and more). I even have it that a representative from the US Army will be there and make free dog tags for each child! Whatz the point of this CND and Auction? well ... we fund the HHCA activities for the year with this one fund raising activity! The scholarship, the community clean up, the community garden, and soon new additions to the park, we maintain the median on Hudson at Wyoming, we bought and maintain banners on Hudson, we maintain and fix up our signs (Channel and Mt Vernon and at Hudson at the expressway), we fund our guest speaker program, we pay for HHCAOHIO.com, print our newsletters and on and on... but there is another important aspect... we meet and have a good time with our neighbors both in preparing for the event and hosting the event! Please make it a point to join us.... bring friends, bring the kids.... come! The scholarship application form is on the HHCAOHIO.com website. Anyone in the area graduating from a high school this spring or anyone who has completed high school and is looking to continue their education can apply. This year the scholarship amount will be $1,000, in part - thanks to a generous Gift of $500 from Park National Bank awarded to the HHCA specifically to assist with the scholarship this year. Speaking of behind the scenes - let me not forget to thank the people who keep the word out to you - HHCAOHIO.com administrator Jim Amore, Facebook Historic Hudson Community Association site administrator Sherry Cass and Media Committee chair Jose Cabral - who orchestrates the news letter. I appreciate what these people do! Getting the word out and sharing news in a timely fashion would be impossible without them! Well - stay tuned to FB and HHCAOHIO.com and come to the meetings (Jan. 10, Feb 7, March 14, April 11, May 9 always starting at 7:00 PM at the Union Hall at 350 Hudson Ave) come to the Chicken Noodle Dinner and Auction, find ways to be involved in making ours a better neighborhood and together ... let's make this the best year of the decade!

                                                   HHCA Banner Update
                                          Bob Meldahl - HHCA President
Please note that our HHCA banner project is complete! On Hudson - starting at the off ramp of St Rt 16 North to Channel Street we have 52 new banners. A huge thanks to the banner committee: Connie Rutter, Mark Fraizer, Dwight McBride, Sara Ernst we were take a project from our minds, to paper to a finished product doing more than we expected at a lower budget than we estimated. This is in large part to the many are businesses who so willingly supported our association. I ask that you think of these folks and consider seeking their services. Please tell them thanks for supporting our HHCA neighborhood!

PLEASE NOTE: on our website we now have a HHCA Events Schedule for all official events! Check it out! Chicken Noodle Dinner & Auction Report: This year’s event despite having to reschedule to a week later, was a great success! We profited $2,674.05 and did $173 better than last year! A huge debt of gratitude goes out to The Central Christian Church, Pastor Jeff Gill and his great staff for their huge support and flexibility! As well – thanks to all the volunteers and attendees for the smooth running and fun time! Newark Police Department K-9 unit gave the HHCA Membership a demonstration at the Feb. 8 meeting. It was very informative and gave us a good insight as to the value of the NPD K-9 program. From building searches, narcotic “sniffing” in schools and vehicles, locating lost children to physically apprehending criminals these dogs have served Newark citizens well (for 63 dog years each!). Both of our dogs are retiring and need to be replaced. The cost of 2 dogs and all their specialized equipment will be offset by fundraising from the Newark area. The HHCA is proud to announce we have supported this effort with a $500 donation as voted by those in attendance at the Feb. 8 meeting. We hope that individuals and businesses in our area will join us in supporting this effort. Jane Alexander, long time HHCA member and supporter recently passed away at the age of 89. She attended many HHCA functions and served as our council representative at one point in her many years of giving to our community. Our condolences go out to her family. She was a wonderful lady. Recently I was contacted Erik McKee - Deputy Chief of the Newark Police Department. His attempt in this contact was to offer his support to our neighborhood and to offer an open opportunity to contact him directly to share our needs and concerns. I immediately voiced the concerns raised at our January meeting about speeding vehicles on Hudson Ave (25 MPH) and the cars that are abandoned, unlicensed or those that haven’t been moved for more than the 3 days the city allows on our streets. He responded with his plan of action for enforcement of speed limits on our streets and will have the offending vehicles parked on streets dealt with. My suggestion to all people passing through our streets… DO THE SPEED LIMIT… (you have been made aware). If you have concerns for our neighborhood please come to our next meeting (March 8) as we want to hear them. We can make a difference by voicing our collective concerns as a neighborhood. We also have fun at our meetings – so come on down to the GMP Hall at our next meeting 7 PM….Y’all! Bob Meldahl – HHCA President  president@hhcaohio.com

We have 2 active and helpful City Council Representatives in our membership. They are: Sean Fennell contact: seangyshen@gmail.com Mark Fraizer contact: mark.fraizer@gmail.com and a former city council representative (Carol Floyd) who is always helpful in relating how the city services can be of assistance. All three of these folks live in our HHCA area and are dedicated Newark citizens looking to improve our neighborhood and our city. Please come join us, meet some great people, see what we do and how you can be a part of your neighborhood organization and make this a better place for all of us.

Sincerely, Bob Meldahl
