The HHCA Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce its recipient for the Joe Kennedy HHCA Scholarship for 2017. Austin Combs, son of Andrew and Tonya Combs of 460 Hudson Ave, is our winner. Austin is a senior at Newark High School headed to Otterbein University this fall. He has been a devoted student and is a member of the National Honor Society. He has earned academic letters each of his 4 years at Newark High with a GPA over 3.5 each year. Austin has also played varsity football since his sophomore year, lettering each year. This year he served as captain of the team, voted to this position for his dedication and leadership. He earned several accommodations including Academic All Ohio and the Ohio Capitol Conference Scholar Athlete. It was a pleasure to interview Austin. Not only is he a hard worker in academics and sports, he also maintains a 25 hour work week at a job. He is most pleasant to get to know and we can all look forward to hearing more about his successes at college. Coach Mike Kopachy (NHS) summed up his feelings about Austin with this remarkable complement: “I have 2 sons at home, and I recall recently thinking: “If my sons could grow up to be the type teenager Austin is, then we will have done very well as parents.” Our congratulations to Austin Combs our 2017 HHCA Joe Kennedy Scholarship winner!! Submitted by Bob Meldahl in behalf of the scholarship committee: Sherry Cass, Jose Cabral, Mark Fraizer and Bob Meldahl
