An open letter to the folks who have come to visit HHCAOHIO.com and the Historic Hudson Community Association FB page. Hi and welcome to my first letter and first month as president. My name is Bob Meldahl and I wanted to wait until I presided over our first meeting of the year before I wrote, just to make sure I would pass the muster. The meeting was last night and I think it went well… so…. In starting off, I want to thank Sherry Cass, who presided over the group for the past 4 years, for her generous service to the group. For someone who offered to help out when no one wanted the responsibility, she has done a remarkable job. I also want to thank her for “holding my hand” through the first meeting… it was a great confidence builder. This group has a pretty simple mission statement: we are here to preserve the integrity and historic significance of the neighborhood and foster an atmosphere of community among neighbors through programs, events and activities. The neighborhood is defined by: State Route 16 North to Channel Street and from the railroad tracks east of Hudson Ave/Clinton St to both sides of Mt. Vernon Road. That’s a lot of people, homes and businesses! As the incoming president my goal is to: involve more people and businesses in our meetings (every 2nd Thursday at 7:00 pm at the GMP Hall on Hudson Ave … and we have refreshments!!) FEB. 8 is the next meeting involve more people in helping us come up with needed programs, speakers, sharing concernsinvolve more participants in our activities (upkeep of gardens and North Street Park, the median on Hudson Ave, Chicken Noodle Dinner Fundraiser, Picnic in the Park, Neighborhood clean-up, Neighborhood Yard Sale, upgrading and hanging the light pole banners,…) Improve communication through our website HHCAOHIO.com (our preferred way of communicating - as dropping off flyers is expensive, involves lots of walking, some people get overlooked and some don’t want the paper). Mr. Jim Amore has been very willing to help us get our site up and running and wants to help us keep it updated and fresh. We apologize for the dog or the flower shop header at this site… We have limited choices of stock pictures. We are working with the provider to get a custom picture. If you wish to submit an article.. you may submit it to me. I will decide if I am comfortable posting it to the group. I ask that you be positive, offer suggestions and generally promote the good of the group and the neighborhood. You may also email me. SUBMIT TO: president@hhcaohio.com

We have 2 active and helpful City Council Representatives in our membership. They are: Sean Fennell contact: seangyshen@gmail.com Mark Fraizer contact: mark.fraizer@gmail.com and a former city council representative (Carol Floyd) who is always helpful in relating how the city services can be of assistance. All three of these folks live in our HHCA area and are dedicated Newark citizens looking to improve our neighborhood and our city. Please come join us, meet some great people, see what we do and how you can be a part of your neighborhood organization and make this a better place for all of us.

Sincerely, Bob Meldahl
