Things We Can Do – and – Things We Can Be Grateful For!
From Sandy Gartner: Following is a fun event I have been participating in for the last couple of months: Kicks Mix Bookstore has been having some fun online events titled: Meet the Author and Bingo. You can go to their Facebook page at ‘Kicks Mix Bookstore’ and register. It is online through Zoom and a lot of fun, educational and gives our local authors exposure to a larger audience. On December 1st they will interview both the author and illustrator of ‘Journey to a Jewel Box!’ which is about the Louis Sullivan building in Downtown Newark. This book was written to raise funds for the restoration of the building. In between talking with the authors, they play four games of bingo for great prizes. When you register you will receive an email with a link to the Zoom Meeting and the bingo card. *******************************************************************Saturday, November 28 is Small Business Saturday. Go to the Licking County Chamber of Commerce Facebook page and click on Events. They have created a “shop, dine and spend local” campaign leading up to Small Business Saturday to encourage the community of Licking County to keep their spending local throughout the holiday season to help improve our local economy and support the amazing small businesses that we have in our county. The campaign will run Wednesday, November 18th until Saturday, November 28th. Participating small businesses will be listed on this event page and on their website along with their specials, deals and products they want to feature. It’s more important now than ever to support these small businesses that have supported us by donating items to our fundraisers and sponsoring our local kids sports programs and activities. There are many families struggling this winter with money woes. We could certainly do the collection and bring the collected food to a group that distributes it (Salvation Army or ???). I will offer to transport the food collected. Who would like to lead the effort (email me!!)?*********************************************************************From the Christmas Decorating Committee (Tara Briner, Sandy Gartner & Bobbi Meldahl)HISTORIC HUDSON COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIONOUTDOOR CHRISTMAS DECORATING CONTESTJUDGING DECEMBER 18 – 20ALL HOMES IN THE HHCA AREA ARE INCLUDEDVOLUNTEER JUDGES WILL BE FROM OUTSIDE THE AREACONTEST LEADERS HOMES WILL NOT BE JUDGED CATAGORIES: BEST OUTDOOR WREATH BEST RELIGIOUS THEMEBEST OUTDOOR DECORATED TREEBEST DECORATED DOORBEST LAWN ORNAMENTSBEST OVERALLWE ARE LOOKING TO MAKE CHRISTMAS A LITTLE BRIGHTER IN THIS CHALLENGING ENVIRONMENT THIS SEASON. Visit: https://www.facebook.com/wonderlightschristmasinohio/ How is it that a company that does it’s incredible animated lighted music display in major markets in the US, selected a sight in our county? We are just lucky enough to be on the outskirts of Columbus! The event is a drive through event appropriate for literally everyone. Kids and grandparents will all fall in love with it. You pay by the person as you drive in the gate: ($7 kids 3 and under are free) or a Carload Pass ($30 up to 7 people) (cash or credit card). You drive through in the warmth of your car with your radio providing the music the lights are choreographed to…. You feel like you are in a movie as everything is animated. I suggest you go on a week night as the lines get rather long for this popular event on the weekends (I have read there is no wait on Mondays). The wait varies but the drive through takes about ½ hour. My wife and I did it last year and when we finished we wanted to go again! Where: St Rt 37 at US 40 – National Trail Raceway 2650 National Rd. SW Hebron OH 43025 …. You enter off of US 40. They offer Hot Chocolate and Cookies this year too.
