HHCA decorating contest

Posted on December 27, 2021 by Jim

First off let me THANK 3 ladies who have put a lot of effort into the decorating contest again this year.  It is all done from the heart and their love for the Christmas Season.  Like so many people – these are very busy people with many other responsibilities to juggle during the Christmas Season and they get this started before Thanksgiving!  A huge and well deserved THANKS to Bobbi Meldahl, Sandy Gartner and Liz McBride.

All of the HHCA area was included in the drive around to show judges (volunteers from outside the area) all of the houses in the HHCA area.  Judges this year were Jill Crowe – a retired Newark High School Art teacher and currently teaches private art classes, Karen and Bob White – both of whom have served to decorate the Davis-Shai Hose in Heath and the Sherwood-Davidson House Museum at Veterans Park… Bob retired from the Safety Director position for the City of Newark.

BEST RELIGIOUS THEME:                525 KIBLER AVE

BEST LAWN DECORATIONS            411 HUDSON AVE

BEST DECORATED DOOR                391 HUDSON AVE

BEST LIGHTING                                435 HUDSON AVE

BEST OUTDOOR WREATH              397 HUDSON AVE

BEST OUTDOOR TREES                   559 HUDSON AVE

HONORABLE MENTION                  56 CHANNEL STREET

BEST OVERALL DECORATION         444 HUDSON AVE

Each of this years winners received a beautiful Christmas decoration made by Liz McBride.

The idea behind the decorating contest is to encourage residents to get in the festive spirit of the season in both decorating and in sightseeing throughout the neighborhood.  The decorating has drawn many visitors to the neighborhoods to see the beautiful decorations and creativity so many in the area share.  None of the 3 ladies who ran the project homes were included in the judging.

I hope the event added to your enjoyment of the holidays

Bob Meldahl
