HHCA Monthly Meeting/ CANCELLED due to Covid

Posted on November 12, 2020 by Jim

Because the meeting is cancelled:There are several important issues to be dealt with and announced. I will announce them via email – the website and FB site.

#1: we have a slate of officers that need to be voted on. There is only one person accepting the opportunity for term that will open Jan. 1 2021. The ballot will be simple with the opportunity to write in a candidate. For the people who have paid dues and I have no email for- I will print a ballot and deliver it to them.

#2: We will be reviving the Christmas – Holiday decorating contest. Bobbi Meldahl, Sandy Gartner and Tara Briner have met to work out details. Winners will be judged by parties from outside the HHCA area and ornaments will be awarded to the winning homes. It is just for fun and to give us a presence during this holidays and add some fun. No one signs up to be judged, you don’t have to be members and the leaders of the event will not have their homes judged. Lots more to be announced soon!

#3: The swing set for the park that HHCA and the City Parks Dept. are looking into is alive and well. City Parks Director Jeff Hoskiss and I have been in discussions for 3 months. The sticking point was a huge expense for shipping ($750!). Jeff has worked out a deal with the equipment company to order a shipment equipment for Newark City Parks and include our swing set in the order thereby not having shipping costs applied to share of the costs. Jeff will know more about this when he gets his budget for 2021.

#4: Bob Meldahl and the Banner Committee are requesting $288 to be appropriated from the budget to purchase 3 of the larger banners – 1 of each color – (non sponsored) to have on hand to replace current banners when they are too worn or grommets have ripped out. Our banners have held up very well during the past 2 1/2 years despite the high winds and weather extremes. 2 sponsored banners – sponsors have been contacted to pay $96 each for replacement banners as their banners are in rough shape. To date one has agreed to make the investment.

#5: The Sign Committee – TIm Gartner, Paul Gregory and Bob Meldahl – have completed the top portion project for each of the 2 signs. Walker Promotions has built and installed the new Di Bond metal signage to the tops of the signs. Basically – it is the sign minus the changeable letter area. The total cost of the project was $450 and it included the meeting place and date announcement area.

#6: Since our last meeting the Scholarship Committee (headed by Rod Nelson) has received the $500 anonymous donation for this year’s (2020) scholarship. This means we have $500 to offer for our 2021 Scholarship and hope that we can find another $500 donation to make our scholarship $1,000 once again.

#7: $600 was paid out from the Sidewalk replacement grant fund for the HHCA share of the replacement sidewalk done at 430 Hudson Ave. There are still 4 projects waiting to be finished this year and all tolled – about half of the grant will have been expended when these are completed. The grant will be continued next year.I will get you a Treasurer’s Report in a coming message.

Thanks all and stay safe!
