HHCA GOOD NEWS #25

Posted on July 25, 2022September 19, 2022 by Jim

JULY 26, 2022

It’s officially summer and don’t we know it. Above record heat-plenty of rain and several storms….and one more month to go!

Banner Update: Thanks to 7 new sponsors we were able to purchase 7 new banners

to beautify Hudson Ave Street Lights. New sponsors include (in appreciation of):

Patrick Kelley, and John Gil (founding members of HHCA), Grant and Nancy Nesbitt,

Hidden Falls Retreat (Matt and Cass Ramsey’s cabin at Hocking Hills),

The Hemmingers, The Ginns and The McHughs (new members Alex and Sarah McHugh). Thanks to all of you for helping us keep our banners looking great

We can all recall the house on Elmwood that was very obvious to all who drove uphill from Hudson Ave to Mt. Vernon Rd. There were many calls for “something needs to be done to get that eyesore taken care of”. Colton Rine (7th ward councilman) was well aware of it as he personally confronted the occupant about the many infractions against City Codes. Codes Dept. served notice on the many offenses and requested immediate attention. At some point the building caught fire and the City of Newark was very quick to act on demolishing it. Albeit unfortunate – it is dealt with. Thanks to all involved.

The Gardens at North Street Park are flourishing… well done Paul Gregory and the gardeners

Picnic in the Park

Unfortunately we had to cancel our planned HHCA Picnic in the Park,,,, but then again… take a moment to think what happened Saturday July 23! A storm packing 60 mph winds blew through our town at about the time we would have been setting up pop-ups, tables etc! Thank heavens we weren’t caught up in a mess like that. A huge thank you to Steve and Mary Mendicino for their many behind the scenes efforts (like handing out flyers to about 100 homes, and all the planning that went into the event).

BTW that storm took out a few tree branches and left quite a mess.

This tree was rotten at the roots and blew over resting on 2 homes

Near the corner of Hudson and Stevens. The home one in from the corner was unoccupied. Hopefully this will be removed with minimal damage to either home.

HHCA CHICKEN NOODLE AND AUCTION

HHCA has been given the OK to rent the facilities at the USW Hall for our Chicken Noodle Dinner & Auction for January 21, 2023. It has been 2 long years without a fund raiser for our group and we look forward to both Walt Hinger’s Chicken and Noodles and the fun and fellowship the event brings. Mark your Calendars NOW!
