Good News #3

Posted on September 15, 2020 by Jim

Is North Street Park “Going to the Dogs”…. Nope the dogs come to it!  If you visit the park you may let your dog make use of the dog run. It is equipped with clean up bags and a receptacle specifically for the bags.  The run is fenced and gated allowing a family to walk to the park with their pet and let Fido run in his own area!

2 ladies – unafraid!  2 ladies have formed a business relationship to purchase great old houses and refurbish them.  Fortunately for the HHCA they purchased 582 Hudson Ave and are now in the process of renovating it.  The home had sat empty for some time and vagrants were seen entering it.  The HHCA and the City Property Maintenance Department (headed by Joe Paul) worked together to get the house boarded up and secured.  Thankfully the 2 ladies, both named Erin, are breathing new life into this wonderful house.  They have already made friends with several adjacent neighbors.  Stop by and welcome them!

Dwight McBride and the median committee are beginning their Fall beautification of the median.  The planters will be switched to fall plantings and the “Fall” banners will be changed out in the coming weeks.  Thank you Anne Rau for the beautiful job you did on the planters for spring and summer.   They were perfect.

When is a fire good news?

Last week we had a fire in a kitchen on Hudson Ave.  Lots of good news.  It was a small kitchen fire that was extinguished quickly with minimal damage to the room.  More good news – we live in Newark OHIO – home of one of the best fire departments in the country.  Within 3 -5 minutes of the 911 call, there were 2 firetrucks on the scene and another arrived within a few minutes.  We are located between the Hollander station and the Downtown station.  We are very fortunate to be so accessible and to have a top notch fire department.

The Community Park at North Street Park got another shot in the arm last week with a personal donation of $100 toward the concrete block beds.  The concrete blocks cost $45.36 per bed so that donation adds 2 new beds.  Thank you Mark Fraizer for your continued support of the park and the gardens.  If anyone would like to make a contribution – we would love to have 2 more beds by next planting season.  Just email me if you would like to contribute and any amount is appreciated.  BTW there is a new garden tool shed at the park to house “loaner” tools for gardeners.  We need a small scoop shovel and a few hand to tools if anyone wants to donate.  Again – email me.

Cass and Matt Ramsey have recently moved into 486 Hudson Ave!  They have already joined the HHCA and are looking forward to our getting together again for monthly meetings and getting to know the neighbors.  They both have an affection for historic homes and neighborhoods and were quite taken with the house when they toured it.  Welcome Matt and Cass!

I would certainly appreciate any help in sharing good news throughout the HHCA area.  Please send contributions via email directly to me (bobqsp2@windstream.net)…. thank you  Bob Meldahl  HHCA President
